We would encourage you to stay at a campsite if you are not travelling in a fully self contained camper. There is a very extensive choice of places to stay right throughout New Zealand from campsites with all the mod cons, to very cost effective DOC sites. Freedom camping is very popular in New Zealand and is meant for self cantained motorhomes. Please be aware of the environment around you and be sure to dispose of all rubbish correctly and leave things as they were when you arrived so the next person can enjoy the area as much as you did.
